LeArta Hammond

Today I am remembering my grandmother and her childlike faith. I found these pictures and wanted to share them with other members of the fam. I love love love this hymn because it was one of her favorites and I can hear her singing it when it is being played in church.

Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom, lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home; lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.

I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till the night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile, which I
Have loved long since, and lost awhile!

The words are so fitting to her, and to her children, and to her children's children. My mother often tells me that my grandmother and I were cut from the same cloth. Which is a huge compliment if you ask me. Isn't she so cute?

She looks fun, and happy and beautiful! And I think you look like her.

Shelly got here first, but that is exactly what I wanted to say . . . you look so much like her!

Lead Thou Me On is one of my favorites, too. (Many's the time, I've wept through it.)

I'll bet she was a great lady, Erin. Just like her granddaughter.
